Skin boosters like Rejuran Healer aren’t a new fad, but thanks to their healing and moisturizing properties, they can do wonders for acne-prone or -damaged skin like mine. Read on to learn about my acne scar treatment journey including my review of the Rejuran Healer!
Acne scars are my nemesis. Since my late teens and mid-20s, I have been suffering from active acne. It lasted about 10years, until I was 30+. Now, I am 38 years old, and while the acne has subsided, I am left with terrible acne scars.
It started in army days where physical activity caused my sebum and dead skin cells to keep accumulating and of course hygiene was a huge issue. At that time I didn’t have the funds to see a skin doctor, so I relied on drug-store products which I believe aggravated the acne situation.
Things started to calm down in my 20s but by this time deep acne scars had begun to set in. These were deep pitted scars which looked an awful lot like the potholes drivers swerve to avoid. Apparently these type of acne scars are called boxcar scars.
I also had a couple of acne scars classified as Ice Pick scars – these resemble a deep giant pore on the skin.
Acne Scar treatment review
I tried many treatments but to cut the long story short, let me tell you what worked the best for me. I first heard about Illumia Medical from a friend and decided to check them out because they are known to treat Acne and Acne Scars with great success.
The medical director recommended the Fractional CO2 Laser combined with a skin booster Rejuran Healer as part of my acne scar treatment plan.
Acne scar treatment review: CO2 Laser
The CO2 laser is a gold standard for acne scars and skin resurfacing. It uses a continuous wave of CO2 laser energy to stimulate collagen and encourage tissue regeneration. There’s a focused pattern that forms on the skin after treatment which looks like microspots – this is normal and shows how precise the fractionated beams are.
- Pain level – very low as topical numbing cream is applied ★★★★★
- Downtime – 3 days ★★★★
- Results -fresher, younger and tighter looking skin, smaller pores, lighter acne scars. ★★★★★
- Cost – $800 and totally worth it. ★★★
- Overall Rating – 5 out of 5 ★★★★★
Acne scar treatment review: Rejuran Healer
Basically composed of Salmon DNA, Rejuran Healer is an injectable used to improve the skin tone, elasticity, and stimulate tissue regeneration. Some skin boosters are essentially hyaluronic acid fillers, which are good if you’re after a solution for reducing the appearance of acne scars, wrinkles, fine lines or crow’s feet. It makes for an effective anti-ageing treatment, too.
The Rejuran treatment comes in a ready-filled syringe with a needle already attached. The doctor then manually injects it into the dermis layer of the skin.
Now the truth is, do not be fooled by the innocuous looking tiny needle lol…. my review? The Rejuran Healer is pretty damn wicked and packs quite a bit of “ow”.
It feels a bit like a stab wound, but I grit my teeth and go through with it because you can’t expect to win a battle against acne scars without some pain, can you?
- Pain level – moderate to high ★★★
- Downtime – 4 days ★★★
- Results – very obviously younger and healed skin ★★★★★
- Cost – $1000 but worth it ★★★
- Overall Rating – 4 out of 5 ★★★★
Will I be going back for another session?
Yeah, totally man. In fact, I improved so much with just one session, I literally cannot wait to see what session 2 is going to do for me.

Immediately after (went straight to the gym):
There were tiny blood specs on the mask provided by the clinic. Looks scary but it is normal – it actually motivated me knowing that it is healing! It comes mainly from the Rejuran Healer injections which greatly helped with the healing and pore minimization.
